Wooden dining tables are really special. With a solid top that can be a canvas to daily life, with its stains, dents and marks all telling stories. When you first buy the table they look crisp and clean, good enough to eat off, after years of use they look even better full of character and rich with hue, like a good wine. These are some of the wooden tables I would love to sit at and enjoy a good meal with great company.

Makoko floating school by NLE'
NLE' architects started by Kunle' Adeyemi have come up with this very African way of developing structures in regions with little infrastructure and prone to flooding. This prototype is for a school in the slum district of Makoko in Lagos. I love this approach to a problem, low tech allowing for any able bodied person to apply this method to improve their own home, and what a great place to go to school. All pictures are from Dezeen.

Hand made by Waynemaxwell
The design process is a wonderful thing, there are many different ways in which a project can travel before it reaches the shelf. I am currently working on a hand made product and for me this is still the most rewarding of paths to travel. I will up date the progress of this object as it takes shape.

Robots.
I am working on some graphics for my children's brand Maximoozie. My son has demanded that the first works have to contain robots.
I use a mixture of hand drawings and computer programs, which together produce a look that really works for me.

| I like the looseness that hand drawings give an image. |

Piet Hein Eek.
I recently watched a documentary on Piet Hein Eek a dutch designer whom I have followed for many years.
Hein Eek is a designer-manufacturer whom I admire both for his designs and for his business model, his style is widely copied especially by the green movement.
The interview also shed light on his motivation which portrayed a man who is happy in his work and direction with a strong work ethic and a real belief in his product, as well as an obsession with time.
Based in Geldrop in the Netherlands he mass produces all his own designs, keeping complete control of the whole process of his product and the production environment.
Purchasing an Hien Eek product you really purchase a part of the man, and his philosophy.

Work starts in Mayfair.
| Mayfair London Design. Photo by Wayne Maxwell. |
The space is an interesting one which
we hope to transform from a run down hair dressing salon to an interesting space in which to enjoy great coffee and be inspired.
Good luck to all involved.
